you can always make the request to your vendors to start forwarding the invoices to you in the preferred format.

if you have a site with fillable form that when sent is received in pdf form, and you would prefer that it be received as an xml file then you should probably take it up with the person who's in charge of maintaining the site.

if the latter applies, and you're doing it yourself then you might find the following to be an option to maybe consider.
i used formassembly on a site with a form that when filled out and sent, i chose to receive as plain text via an email but in the following link you'll see that xml is one of the outputs supported.
note that under 'Exports and Third-Party Integration', xml is listed ..

How I wish this was easy. The thing about pdf's is that they don't do columns well when converting them. Also font's in pdf's tend to cause problems when converting. If you have a good OCR software it is a little easier. Are you looking for a free solution? There are a few paid solutions that work very well. I have a piece of software at work that I purchased and deployed that gets the job done. If you can wait till later tomorrow. I can send you a link. I had purchased numerous programs trying to do this and I could only get results from one company that actually worked. I just can't remember the exact name.

Even with that the format is wrong. You have to go back and edit it to the right layout, replace missing text.. It goes on and on. Asking the company is out of the question to send in the format you want. They won't, not even for the DOD.

It's a pain. I tried to use open source to save the taxpayer's money. But had to get a commercial company's software. I had to deploy it to over 350 pc's, and make it easy for the common employee with a single click to convert to or from. And it's still not perfect. It's close.

Had to make sure I was able to help you out without stepping on any toes. When I had the company deploy the software, I was unaware of the handshaking process that was built in by the contract. But unfortunately the gov had this software specifically created for the way our PDF's and Excel documents are signed by digital signature using our CAC cards and vice versa. The only way we can convert to and from the two formats is through use of our gov. CAC cards that we use to log in our pcs. Even being in the IT department on my base I don't see the handshaking taking place. And i'm covered by non disclosure. Sorry wish I could help you out a little more.

We had the same problem recently and started calling our vendors to get XML with little success (everybody is too busy). We ended up finding the software that I think someone above found with a google search. Its called EDI Link Connect. We just email the PDF to the server and it returns XML that can be used for integration into whatever software you are trying to push it into.

Anyway, hope that helps.
